Charlie Tan received 20 year sentence yesterday in federal court, and the question many our asking is how the Court used his fathers death as part of his sentencing given that he beat the murder trial in N.Y. State court?  The answer is complicated but in a nut shell federal sentencing is all encompassing and leaves the court with a large range to sentence.  Federal Court will look into a complete background and all prior transactions before a sentence.  I know that in this case Nobles and  Decarlos worked their tails off to make Charlie look good and problaby believed that he would receive a better sentence but a proir murder charge is hard to over look.  In the end it seems he was punished for the murder charge.
